The nature of Fake News

“The Nature of Fake News: Past and Present tendencies” addresses the main topics and issues related to Fake News, bringing them into discussion and assigning (research) questions and tasks for reflection.

Its organisation is settled upon 10 units, which can be consulted in the pre-established linear form or according to the specific interests of the user. Units 1-7 are more theoretical, prompting the user to dive into the Fake News world and to get a deeper understanding of the history, processes, concepts and structure of Fake News. Units 8-10, with a more pedagogical and processual approach, introduce the user to the digital ethnography technique, a research method to analyse when and how Fake News originated and the interactions it triggered.

“The Nature of Fake News: Past and Present tendencies” has been designed to meet the different needs of the user (either students in training or trainers): to be a self-training tool, to be the basis of face-to-face classes, to be an integrated resource at different moments of face-to-face an on-line learning (consultation of only one unit, for example). The user of the e-modules “Developing intercultural competence” and “Fake news as pedagogical tools” will find activities of this resource integrated in the training pathway.
